DUTIES OF THE POSITION
Assisting South Sudanese youth and families, especially but not exclusively Nuer, to understand the juvenile justice system, attend appointments and court hearings, comply with the provisions of their probation/diversion plans, and generally live positive lives and not offend again. S/He will also work with schools, the youths’ friendship groups, youth development agencies, and extended family and/or other South Sudanese community network groups, and legal representatives to build a critical network that will support the youth in their movement forward in successful lives.
Preparing reports for NLFA, Juvenile Probation, Douglas County Juvenile Assessment Center, and other sources on the progress of youth and their performance in schools and in the community.
Specialists at Heartland Family Services will provide technical assistance in developing expertise in the work and preparing reports.
Certification by Nebraska Juvenile Probation office and by Douglas County Juvenile Assessment Center are required, but can be completed post-hiring.(Also required, related to these certifications, is successful completion of specific academic courses.)
