Youth Services: At-Risk Youth Counseling and OPS Referral
Paul was struggling with behavioral issues in school. Through meetings with his school administration, NLFA learned that Paul was exhibiting disruptive and inappropriate behavior in class, including touching, fighting, isolating himself from peers, and falling behind academically, likely due to significant stress at home. NLFA also engaged Paul’s parents and provided emotional support and education on managing his behavior at home.
Paul was referred to OPS for further assistance, and over time, his classroom behavior improved considerably, with fewer outbursts and increased focus on his studies. He began participating more actively in class discussions and forming positive relationships with classmates.
Basic Services and Family Support: Form Assistance and Guidance
James was born in Khartoum in December 1995. In May 1998, the family moved to Cairo, Egypt, because of the war in Sudan between the North and the South. From there, the family was resettled as refugees to Buffalo, New York, in September 2000, where Anyuan lived until he completed his high school education.
In 2022, James decided to move to Omaha, Nebraska where his father lives. At that time, it was hard for him to go to college or get a job because his name was misspelled on his Naturalization documents, making him dependent on his father.
In May, James and his father came to the NLFA’s office to learn what they had to do to correct his name. After meeting with Dhalbeng, Anyuan understood that he had to file name change documents with the county and then file an Application for a Replacement Naturalization Document. With his name now correct, Anyuan is now working and going to college!
